Character AI Plus : What c.ai+ Buys, Ads, Charms, Cancellation

Character AI Plus, branded c.ai+, costs $9.99 a month or $94.99 a year at standard rates, with a discounted entry price running alongside both. No promo code exists for either, whatever the coupon sites advertise. The free tier it sits above now carries advertising and a throttle called slow mode. Charms, the in-app currency, cover smaller one-off actions without any recurring charge. Cancelling runs through Apple, Google, or the website, depending on where the payment started.

What Character AI Plus actually changes

Free accounts land in a queue when traffic peaks, and escaping it is most of what Character AI Plus buys. A subscriber described the pattern in review, calling queues unbearable in summer and mild in fall, so the value of the plan moves with the season. An older review tracked a wait estimate climbing from three minutes to over two hours inside a single session.

Muted words, four against twenty

Past speed, one documented functional difference exists. The muted words setting lists terms you would rather not see in replies, and the support article caps it at four for everyone and twenty for subscribers, warning that multilingual or complex words slip through anyway.

Early access is the third piece. AvatarFX reached paying accounts roughly a month ahead of the general rollout, following the pattern the company has used for multimedia launches, and the audio behind those clips is covered separately in our page on Character AI voice. Nothing in the plan raises a message cap, since ordinary chat carries none on the free tier either.

Character AI pricing against the current offer

Standard Character AI Plus pricing comes in two forms, with two promotional rates running alongside them. The published offer terms, updated on 5 June 2026, set out both, and each one is structured as a discounted entry period instead of a permanent reduction.

Plan Entry price Renews at Who qualifies
Monthly, standard $9.99 per month $9.99 per month Anyone
Annual, standard $94.99 per year $94.99 per year Anyone
Three-month offer $14.99 upfront $9.99 per month New and eligible returning subscribers
Annual offer $59.99 for year one $94.99 per year New and eligible returning subscribers
Charms packs $0.99 to $99.99 Not applicable Anyone, on the App Store

Both entry offers exclude anyone already paying. Eligibility is decided automatically at checkout, and the terms state outright that no promo code is required; if the discount does not appear, standard pricing applies. Regional currency, tax, and pricing tiers shift the actual figure.

What the entry offers cost per month

Run the arithmetic and the two offers converge on the same entry rate. The three-month deal works out at exactly $5.00 a month across its window, and the annual offer at $59.99 divides down to five dollars a month as well. Standard annual billing sits at $7.92 a month effectively, about twenty-one percent under the monthly rate. So the discount is not a percentage off a plan. It is a fixed entry price that halves the monthly cost for one window and then stops. Verifying the current price needs no account: the App Store listing shows both tiers as named in-app purchases beside the Charm packs, the fastest public check on price movement.

Why coupon sites have nothing to sell

That single line about codes matters more than it looks, because an entire industry contradicts it. Search results for Character AI Plus discounts are dominated by pages selling something that does not exist. Coupon aggregators advertise discounts of ten, twenty, twenty-five, forty, and sixty-five percent, several of them on the same day. SimplyCodes, tracking the same brand, reports zero verified codes in the preceding thirty days and no history of past discounts. The codes on those pages are not expired. They were never issued.

Auto-renewal and the refund rule on a c.ai+ subscription

Discounted periods roll into the standard rate automatically once the introductory window closes, and that is where Character AI Plus catches people out. The terms are explicit that no separate notice arrives beyond whatever was disclosed at purchase. Take the $59.99 first year, forget about it, and $94.99 leaves the account twelve months later.

Cancellation of Character AI Plus takes effect at the end of the current billing period instead of immediately, and no partial refund is issued for unused time inside that period. The offer itself can be changed or withdrawn at any time at the company's sole discretion.

Cancelling Character AI Plus depends on where you paid

Payment channel decides the cancellation route for Character AI Plus, not the account. Whichever store took the first payment keeps the subscription for its whole life, and no transfer between channels exists, so anyone who subscribed on a phone and later switched to the desktop still has to go back to the phone. The cancellation article, updated on 29 October 2025, is rated helpful by 46 of 236 readers, and its structure explains that verdict. Web instructions stop at the portal door without describing the cancellation step itself, and the mobile half carries no instructions at all, only outbound links to Apple and Google support pages.

Where you paid How to manage it Refund route
Website Settings, then Account, then Manage Support ticket through the help center
iPhone Apple ID subscriptions in device settings Apple's purchase refund request form
Android The subscriptions page in Google Play Google Play's refund request process

The web route runs through Stripe

Stripe handles web billing for Character AI Plus, and the portal opens by emailed link instead of by password. You enter the account email, wait for a secure link, and check the spam folder if nothing lands within five minutes. Anyone whose sign-in address is no longer reachable meets a harder problem, set out on our page about Character AI login failures. One detail is easy to miss: if the plan shown in settings says it is managed by an app store, the web route will not work at all, and the store becomes the only option.

Card payments on the web have been the only method for years, and the help center's answer on adding others still says the matter is being explored, dated 22 May 2023.

Ads on the Character AI free tier

Advertising is now declared on the App Store listing itself, under content descriptors. That declaration is the cleanest public confirmation that the free tier is ad-supported and Character AI Plus is not. Reviews through 2026 pair it with slow mode, the throttle that pauses free sessions during heavy load, and a January review reports heavy ad volume together with a truncated recent-chats list. What that advertising machinery does with account data sits in a different document, examined on our page asking is Character AI safe.

Paying removes them outright. Charms offer a cheaper route to the same outcome for a limited window, and that is the trade most free accounts end up weighing.

Charms are earned, not sold

Official documentation and the store listing disagree outright on this one. The Charms FAQ, updated on 17 June 2026, states that Charms are currently earned through in-app activity and that the ability to purchase them is coming in the future. The App Store listing for that app carries seven priced Charm packs right now, running from a starter pack at $0.99 to an extra extra large pack at $99.99.

Six quests that pay out Charms

Earning happens through six quests, none of which involve Character AI Plus: logging in daily, enabling notifications, creating a persona, making an intro video for a character, generating a chat image, and posting to the feed. Two of those reward work you were doing anyway if you build your own Character AI bots. Spending covers three things during the beta, namely extra Imagine images, skipping slow mode, and bypassing ads.

Restrictions arrive in that document, three of them. Charms are tied to one account and cannot be transferred. They hold no cash value. The company reserves the right to discontinue them entirely, at its sole discretion, with or without notice, and some Charm-enabled features stay limited while the beta runs.

Working out whether Character AI Plus is worth paying for

A feature comparison settles nothing here, because the gap between Character AI Plus and a free account is thin by design. The real question is whether you hit the queue. Someone who chats at midday on a weekday may never see slow mode; someone who chats during North American evenings in summer meets it constantly, and that is precisely when a subscriber described the difference as worth the money. Everything the free tier already includes, including calls and creation tools, is set out on our overview of Character as a platform.

Advertising as the second test

Tolerance for advertising is the second test. If ads interrupting a session are the main irritant, a Charms balance earned through daily quests addresses that without any recurring charge, and the company has pointed free users toward exactly that in public replies to reviews.

Character AI Plus FAQ

Does Character AI cost money to use?

No. A free account covers chatting, character creation, and audio, with advertising and slow mode as the trade-off. Paying removes both and raises one setting limit, so the decision comes down to how much queueing you meet instead of what you want to do.

Is there a free trial of the subscription?

No trial appears in the official terms. The nearest equivalent is the reduced first period, which behaves differently from a trial in one respect that matters: it charges upfront and converts to full price by itself, with no prompt at the changeover.

Do Character AI promo codes work at checkout?

No, because checkout has no field for one. Eligibility for the reduced rate is decided by the system from your account history, and every percentage figure circulating on aggregator pages is invented. That is how two of them advertise different numbers within a single afternoon.

How does Character AI make money?

Three visible streams, with a fourth implied. Subscriptions bill monthly or yearly at Apple, Google, or Stripe, advertising runs against free accounts, and packs of the virtual currency sell in mobile stores at fixed prices, while Apple's privacy panel lists data used to track users for third-party advertising.

Does the reduced price apply if you subscribed before and left?

It varies. Returning subscribers appear in the eligibility wording, but nothing states how long an account has to have lapsed to qualify, and the check runs silently at checkout. The only reliable test is reaching the payment screen and seeing which figure the system offers.

How the figures here are checked

Prices, offer terms, and Charm pack contents are read from the store listings and the company's own terms, then re-checked monthly, since every number above has a short shelf life. The sourcing rules behind that work sit in our editorial policy, and the commercial arrangements funding the site are itemized in the affiliate disclosure. Scope and method for the whole site are described on the about page, and what a visit here leaves behind is listed in the privacy policy. If a figure has moved, tell us through the contact page.
